We’re getting about 9 eggs a day now from our hens! Back in May/April of this year, Blaine fixed up grandma’s old chicken coop and made it good enough for new residents.

Mother’s Day Gift Ideas
Three blog posts in one week – I’m on a roll! 😀 From history.com, here is a little backstory:
Celebrations of mothers and motherhood can be traced back to the ancient Greeks and Romans, who held festivals in honor of the mother goddesses Rhea and Cybele, but the clearest modern precedent for Mother’s Day is the early Christian festival known as “Mothering Sunday.”
Once a major tradition in the United Kingdom and parts of Europe, this celebration fell on the fourth Sunday in Lent and was originally seen as a time when the faithful would return to their “mother church”—the main church in the vicinity of their home—for a special service.
Over time the Mothering Sunday tradition shifted into a more secular holiday, and children would present their mothers with flowers and other tokens of appreciation. This custom eventually faded in popularity before merging with the American Mother’s Day in the 1930s and 1940s.
Pretty neat, huh?! As we’ve morphed into the American way of celebrating Mother’s Day by presenting her with a gift of appreciation, I’ve gathered up a few ideas:
Jack Turns Three
Jack turned three last week and I can hardly believe it! Slow down time.
We had a family brunch party over the weekend to celebrate. I stayed up late the night before preparing the table and food.
For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
George Milton Hust arrived about 3 weeks early! He’s healthy and sweet as can be. Big brother, Jack, adores him and is ready for him to play!
George’s nursery is mostly done, so I thought I’d share it here. Continue reading
Nursery Progress & Purchases
I’ve started putting together the new nursery a bit. (And moved our house-guest to the basement! ;)) It seems like lots of people I know are expecting babies soon too. I thought it might be fun to share what I’ve purchased for the nursery so far, in case y’all might be interested in some of the same things! Continue reading
Garage Guest House
Turning our garage into a guest house has been on our 10 year plan for some time. This year, with the Covid pandemic, we’ve had a house guest living with us since March. Our friend, Matt, who lives and works in Africa, was sent back to the US until things settle down.
