Leftovers

Yesterday was a good day for a drive in the country.

The destination was Leftovers Antiques & Home Mercantile in Brenham, Texas. This weekend is the last of their Warehouse Sale. They’re located about an hour and a half west of Houston, halfway to Austin. And it’s definitely worth the drive, especially on a gorgeous spring day with the windows down and dogs in tow.

Before reaching our destination, our first stop was Chappell Hill Sausage Company for some hatch green chile and jalapeno cheese sausage.

Then, the headquarters of Blue Bell Creamery. Too bad their gift shop is closed on Saturdays!

We made a pass by downtown Brenham, too.

Once at Leftovers, we found the the barn there was filled to the gills with antique American and European furniture, shutters, doors and accessories. Everything was marked 50%-95% off retail!

I picked up an 19th century French hutch for Hannah’s Hill. It needs some TLC, so I got it for a song (95% off retail!!), and I’m still really pleased with the purchase.  (I forgot to snap some photos before it was loaded into the truck!)

Here it is back in our Houston garage. The interior blue color and old brass hardware won me over.

Before leaving, we also poked around inside the main showroom.

Yard bowling, anyone?

I love this little sea sponge dipped in soap  – Matt picked one up for a gift.

This bistro table reminds of the one that I mentioned here.

After picking up a few more gifts at Leftovers, we moved on down the road towards Round Top for lunch at Teague’s Tavern.  En route though, we passed by this junk yard and had to do a u-turn for a quick browse.  🙂  They had some neat stuff, but we didn’t make any purchases.

Dogs are welcome on the patio at Teague’s, so Lincoln and Tillie enjoyed relaxing in the sunshine while we ate.

Lincoln knows no stranger! He went table to table getting belly rubs and scratches on the patio.

The chicken fried steak sliders on homemade cheddar biscuits were amazing!

On the drive back to Houston, we took in a few more pleasant and familiar sights.

Bluebonnets were just starting to show, and I look forward to seeing more of them at the spring Round Top Antiques Fair, March 27  – April 1.

I plan to share with you more updates on the house progress soon – all of the finishing work is happening next!
